Business Case & Benefits Lead Shape investment decisions that deliver real value

This is a strategically important role at the heart of the Society's change agenda. As Business Case & Benefits Lead, you will be responsible for defining and embedding the framework that underpins investment decision-making across the One Plan portfolio, ensuring that change investments are aligned to strategic priorities, supported by robust evidence and focused on delivering measurable value. Working closely with senior leaders across the business, finance and change functions, you will influence key investment decisions and help drive a more value-led approach to change delivery.

About the role

As our Business Case & Benefits Lead, you will lead the development and continual enhancement of the Society-wide business case and benefits management framework, providing the standards, governance and insight required to support effective investment decisions.

  • Own and evolve the Society's business case and benefits management framework, establishing clear standards, guidance and quality expectations for investment proposals.

  • Provide independent challenge and assurance on business cases, testing strategic alignment, assumptions, options, costs, benefits and risks to support prioritisation and governance decisions.

  • Lead portfolio-level benefits oversight, ensuring value is clearly defined, tracked and realised, while providing meaningful insight into emerging risks, trade-offs and investment performance.

About you

You will be an experienced business case and investment appraisal professional with a strong understanding of how value is created, assessed and realised within a complex organisation.

  • Significant experience in business case development, investment appraisal and financial analysis, with expertise in cost-benefit modelling, return on investment, net present value and scenario analysis.

  • Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders and executive governance forums through clear, evidence-based recommendations and constructive challenge.

  • Strong knowledge of benefits management and value realisation, with the ability to translate complex information into clear insights that support strategic decision-making.

Our commitments to Community and Charity

Ever since we started back in 1864, we’ve had a clear purpose – to do some good in our communities through helping people keep their savings safe. And helping everyone have a place to call home. Today, that purpose is still a huge part of who we are. And every one of our colleagues helps that happen.

We’re committed to volunteering our time, resources, skills and knowledge – more than 50% of colleagues contribute to thousands of volunteer hours every year. And our Charitable Foundation has now donated over £9 million to charities and good causes across the country.
