Data Catalogue Lead

  • Job ID: 008400
  • Location: Leeds, UK, LS1 8EQ
  • Job type: Permanent - Full Time
  • Salary: Up to £48,000 Dependent on Experience + Bonus & Benefits

About the role

We’re on a journey to transform YBS into a modern, data-driven organisation - as a result we’re looking for a Data Catalogue Lead (internally known as a Data Quality & Control Lead) to join our Leeds based Data Quality & Control team to manage, maintain and govern our enterprise data catalogue and yield a centralised Single Version of Truth. As our new Data Catalogue Lead, you’ll be a key member and important intermediary between data owners, data consumers and the data function.

What you’ll do

You will be responsible for the ownership, maintenance, refinement, and evolution of the data catalogue - ensuring metadata relating to our most important and critical data is governed, defined, logically catalogued and intuitively discoverable by end-users via self-service. Experience in managing, developing, or using a data catalogue (e.g. Erwin DI Suite) would be advantageous but not essential as long as you have the drive and enthusiasm to own, shape, lead, deliver and continuously improve the service to maximise exposure, uptake and value.

You will use your technical data and metadata management knowledge to lead and/or assist colleagues in defining, executing, communicating and governing metadata management standards and processes relating to data cataloguing and its content such as the data dictionary, data lineage, the business glossary and associated descriptive metadata.

You will empower technical and non-technical colleagues in data catalogue usage via planning and delivery of targeted comms and training plans, and you will provide a feedback loop to enable continuous improvement and maximise usefulness of the service.

You must be a self-starter and a strong team player, with a methodical approach to problem solving. You might come from a technical leaning data cataloguing, data governance, data steward, data analysis, data modelling/designer, database administration, BI background, or similar. Excellent communication skills are expected for this role as you will be required to proactively engage and collaborate with data stakeholders from across the business.

About you

A good understanding of/experience in the following disciplines would be highly advantageous:

  • Management and ownership of the enterprise Data Catalogue - including license and supplier relationship management and coordinating deployments and UAT for version upgrades, patches, product enhancements/connectors etc.

  • Designing standards, processes and roadmaps

  • Designing and delivering Data Catalogue training plans

  • An understanding of database concepts and data structures

  • An understanding of different types of descriptive metadata such as data dictionary definitions, reference data, data quality rules, data lineage and the business glossary

  • Leading and chairing meetings, workshops and working groups to analyse, discuss, evolve, improve, and govern data management practices

  • Advising data directorate colleagues and stakeholders across the business on data catalogue and data management best practice
