We are thrilled to offer an exciting opportunity for a hands-on Software Development Team Lead (known internally as an IT Service Lead) to join our Savings and Payments Domain. The role will lead a newly formed software development team that is responsible for the change delivery and running of YBS transformed Payment’s capability.

We are currently on a transformation journey and this role will be key to ensuring the technology stack supporting our Payments capability is robust and provides customers with excellent functionality.

About the role


You’ll be accountable for all aspects of technical quality in relation to the Payments Service and provide direction to the development team. It’s a hands-on role that covers

  • Technical Design: leading the team in creating (and documenting) technical designs which deliver the business change demand to the agreed service levels

  • Live Support: leading the team in supporting, managing, and resolving systemic application issues experienced within strict SLAs around service outage and impact

  • Leadership: leading a team of Software Engineers in the delivery of business and strategic change demand. You will need to be able to balance workload to people, addressing hotspots and coaching as required to deliver the required outcome

  • Release & Deployment: responsible for version deployments, ensuring these are delivered safely with minimal disruption to service

  • Assurance: accountable for providing assurance that solutions are built right, to service levels and follows appropriate standards, especially coding, release, and security standards

  • Application ownership: accountable for the technical debt, service levels and security vulnerabilities for the applications owned by the team. Driving evolution of the implementation to address these areas

  • You’ll work closely with peers such as the Business Product Owner, IT Delivery Manager and Reliability Engineer; as well as colleagues in the IT Operations teams to ensure robust systems resilience for key applications and services that support our entire Payments capability


About you


You will -

  • Be a great communicator finding ways for non-technical colleagues to understand technical concepts

  • Be a strong people leader and negotiator to bring colleagues on-board to new ways of thinking and working within a strongly regulated financial environment

  • Have excellent knowledge and application of the following software skill sets: Java SpringBoot Microservices and API Management tools (such as Google Apigee) and GitLab

  • Have experience of integrating new technologies and creating standards of usage within teams

  • Have experience of working within IT support environments; with the ability to risk assess and prioritise incidents to ensure resource is correctly utilised

  • Desirable skills include:

    • Experience of working in an Agile way and across multiple IT teams, including utilising DevOps type methodologies
