Quality Assurance Manager - Commercial Lending

After increasing its Commercial Lending loan book from £1bn to £2bn, YBS has ambitious growth plans for its commercial lending business to grow to £8bn book over next 6 years.

A critical component of this expansion and transformation is ensuring we have a robust control framework to ensure our lending is of the right quality and meets our risk appetite. Quality Assurance (QA) function is key control function that ensures our lending aligns to lending policy and our financial crime risk appetite.

About the Role

• Lead a small team of QA consultants (currently 2), ensuring the team undertake scheduled programme of review activity to ensure our lending is sound, and provides good outcomes for YBS & customers.

• Provide feedback to lending teams, underwriters and CDD (customer due diligence) consultants on outcomes of QA reviews, fostering sense of learning and improvement.

• Ensuring lending decisions made by underwriters adhere to YBS policy and risk appetite across our 3 areas of lending Buy to Let, Commercial Investment & Commercial Owner Occupied lending.

• Undertake thematic reviews around key control points of the customer journey to identify and remedy any potential gaps.

• Provide strategic inputs to our future lending strategy, including around lending policy and risk appetite.

• Mange key stakeholders at senior level, including presenting to committees.

• Be at the forefront of driving transformational change.

It’s important to have combination of experience within commercial lending environment (covering BTL, Commercial Investment & SME lending) , as well as experience within aspect of risk management (e.g. underwriting, QA, 2nd LoD, audit, or customer facing role).

About You

• You’ll have ability to be a dynamic leader of a small team, ensuring they are engaged around the business purpose and strategy.

• You’ll have direct experience of complex commercial lending (preferably across BTL, Commercial Investment & Commercial SME Owner Occupied).

• You’ll have a strong eye for detail and complexity, with experience of sound decision making.

• You’ll have the ability to build strong stakeholder relationships with those you work with, creating a position of mutual respect and ensuring effective collaboration.

• You’ll have experience of driving change and transformation in fast paced environment.

• You’ll have an element of creativity to evolve how QA is undertaken and experience of managing / delivering change.
