An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Financial Services Solicitor to join our Legal team for a 12 month fixed term contract. You will provide commercially aware, forward looking, efficient and effective legal services in relation to retail financial services and products to relevant functions across YBS.

About the role

This is a great opportunity for a Financial Services solicitor to develop their experience/skills with a leading national financial services institution, gaining exposure to exciting and diverse work, with the benefit of an experienced and really supportive team around you!

Providing expert and strategic legal advice on a timely basis as required across YBS with particular emphasis on advising upon mortgages and mortgage propositions, and financial services law and regulation.

Along with other lawyers in the team you will have responsibility for drafting, reviewing, maintaining and advising upon product related terms and conditions and other relevant customer documentation and associated material across the Group and regularly reviewing to ensure ongoing compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements.

A key part of the role will be advising on strategic change projects, new mortgage propositions and the digitisation of our customer offerings. You will also be advising on transactional product queries, financial promotions and the cornucopia of discreet legal issues that arise from time to time!

You will be an innovative thinker, someone who is aware of what is happening in the financial services sector and how this may affect our business, customers and our products.

You will be someone who is always looking for ways we can improve and engaging with key people across the business and challenging effectively.


About you

For this role we need a solicitor with a good level of experience working in financial services law (either in private practice or in-house) Experience of advising on mortgages/the regulation of mortgages is required.

Most importantly, you will be diligent, friendly and have a real enthusiasm to develop your skills/experience in financial services law, with an aptitude for asking questions and reading around areas of law.

Other key pieces of experience you will need include:

  • Qualified Solicitor, Barrister, Legal Executive or other relevant legal qualification.
  • Relevant experience in relation to FS law and regulation.
  • Utilisation of excellent written and oral communication skills to build and maintain internal and external stakeholder relationships.
  • Personally take on learnings and feedback constructively to take ownership for your own development and taking ownership to ensure your knowledge is maintained.
  • Experience of advising on mortgages.
