Fixed term contract to 31 December 2025

If so, then this role could be for you as you’ll be able to use that curiosity and passion to build an effective risk culture through providing risk and control expertise to the Finance Division.
We are seeking a technical expert in finance risk, control and assurance activity to operate within the first line of defence. This role is crucial in building first line risk assurance capability and capacity. You will work with colleagues across the Finance division to implement first line assurance, build effective monitoring and reporting and provide strategic leadership and partnering to support in embedding revised risk frameworks and culture. The role will report directly into the Director of Balance Sheet Management but will provide expertise across the Finance division, including Finance and Treasury teams. In addition, working in collaboration with a project team who are delivering a risk management framework for the whole organisation.
About the Role:
As the Financial Risk & Control Lead you will be responsible for designing and implementing effective control testing activities, and will lead, guide and develop the Finance division on risk and control-related matters and improvements.
You will provide technical expertise and experience to implement an effective assurance framework and lead in the embedding of standardisation of policies and standards across Finance, Balance Sheet Management and Treasury functions.
Other role responsibilities include:
Implementation of centrally driven risk change: Provide leadership and support for the Finance division in the implementation and embedding of a number of Society wide changes to risk culture, risk and control monitoring, control testing and reporting.
Building Risk Management Capability: Design and maintain a controls and assurance framework to ensure all Finance risk activities comply with the Enterprise Risk Management Framework and processes
Develop Independent Control Testing: Provide dynamic, pragmatic and effective oversight, controls testing and assurance for all Finance functions and areas of responsibility on behalf of the CFO.
Lead risk, control and assurance activity: Providing strategic and forward-looking business partnering risk management expertise across the Finance Division
About You:
To succeed in this role, you will have:
Understanding and experience of effective risk management governance and developing risk management cultures.
Experience in applying risk management principles to mitigate the risks and establish best practice.
Experience in the application and oversight of finance related control frameworks.
Extensive experience of auditing/conducting controls assurance and testing.
