At Yorkshire Building Society we pride ourselves on being a mutual organisation that places our customers at the heart of everything we do. As a result of this we continue to grow and strengthen our position as one of the most trusted financial services providers in the UK, providing real help with real lives.

This role is based in our Leeds City Centre Head Office, with working from home capacity.

About the role

An opportunity has arisen to join the Market Risk team within the Treasury function as a specialist market risk manager. In this role you will be directly responsible for market risk appetite and policy as well as leading the market risk section of the Society’s ICAAP and structural hedging strategy as a subject matter expert while supporting others with your wealth of expertise. This role has no line management responsibility.

As a market risk specialist you'll be joining an established team and will drive improvements to, and understanding of, the risk management framework. This role would ideally suit someone with a strong IRRBB or market risk background who is looking to build on and share that knowledge while offering the opportunity for thought leadership to all levels of the organisation. YBS’s market risk exposures extend to interest rates, credit spread and foreign exchange held entirely within a banking book.

In this role you'll digest changes to the regulatory landscape and articulate what they mean for YBS. Developing a strong knowledge of the YBS balance sheet will be key to success in the role. In addition, you will champion a positive risk management culture and support others with your expertise.

About You

You'll need in-depth knowledge of both internal and external market risk management and metrics, such as NII, PV01, CSRBB metrics and regulatory requirements coupled with:

  • Familiarity with banking book and financial market products, with a broad knowledge of finance and balance sheet management within an organisation.
  • A detailed understanding and practical experience of internal risk transfer through hedging for a Retail financial services firm.
  • Past experience of producing the market risk section of an ICAAP and taking it through a firm’s governance.
  • Thought leadership in setting market risk appetite to ensure appropriate and timely escalation to decision makers.
  • Experience of defining and maintaining banking book structural hedging strategies.
  • Experience of developing existing policy to incorporate industry and regulatory change and ensuring firm-wide compliance.
  • The ability to deliver within tight deadlines, ensuring stakeholder engagement through the journey. Ensuring effective communication, engagement and influencing skills demonstrating the ability to understand, define and articulate business requirements.
  • Excellent attention to detail, a pro-active attitude and continuous improvement mindset.
  • You’ll be someone who is keen to help others learn and develop and, while not a people leader, you’ll inspire colleagues across the Treasury team to deliver great work.

Community and Charity

Ever since we started back in 1864, we’ve had a clear purpose – to do some good in our communities through helping people keep their savings safe. And helping everyone have a place to call home. Today, that purpose is still a huge part of who we are. And every one of our colleagues helps that happen.

We’re committed to volunteering our time, resources, skills and knowledge – more than 50% of colleagues contribute to thousands of volunteer hours every year. And our Charitable Foundation has now donated over £9 million to charities and good causes across the country.
