Internal Audit Manager
We’re looking for an individual to join our team and deliver audits in a broad spectrum of core risk areas. The focus for your work will be coverage of customer and commercial risks, but the role will provide the opportunity and flexibility to develop skills in other risk disciplines. You will work extensively with stakeholders in key business divisions to help shape the delivery of our audits and develop good working relationships with colleagues across the business.
You may be an experienced auditor, or someone with a first or second line risk background, experienced in delivering assurance reviews. To further your development, the role offers opportunities to study for a professional internal audit qualification such as the CIA or CMIIA and pursue other specialist learning.
It is an exciting time to join Yorkshire Building Society and our Internal Audit function, as the business looks to grow and deliver its strategic priorities. Your role can make a real difference to the Society’s ability to manage its risks as it grows.
This role is based in our Leeds City Centre Office with working from home capability.
About the Role
- Plan and deliver audits within appropriate timescales and to Internal Audit methodology. Our Audit Managers should be able to role model their delivery skills.
- Work autonomously to deliver robust and succinct audit reports, applying your professional judgement on the adequacy of the control environment, root causes and risk culture.
- Attend committees and forums, providing oversight and challenge.
- Influence colleagues across the organisation to embed robust, cost-effective controls and strengthen the overall control environment.
- Help shape the Internal Audit department through process improvement initiatives, training, coaching junior colleagues, and mentoring, to create a high performing function.
About You
- Ability to work autonomously and make appropriate assessments of risk and control frameworks, demonstrating excellent business judgement.
- Have excellent project management experience, time management and prioritisation skills to deliver audits to the required quality and timescales.
- Have strong knowledge of a range of risk areas such as operational risk and conduct risk and be comfortable working with experts in our commercial, operational and risk teams.
- Excellent analytical and report writing skills.

Diversity, Equity & Inclusion
You’ll find people from all walks of life here, with different cultures, beliefs, ages, outlooks and more. And we’re proud of our differences. So we’re dedicated to creating a workplace where everyone feels welcome, supported, and empowered to be their whole self at work.
Our five Colleague Networks play an important role in helping that happen – and have a real impact on our everyday working life here. Each is closely linked to our Inclusion and Diversity committee, and sponsored by a member of our Senior Leadership Team.

And we also have other colleague groups, such as ManKind and Family Foundations, where colleagues can connect, and start conversations that can be taken into the Networks.
Community and Charity
Ever since we started back in 1864, we’ve had a clear purpose – to do some good in our communities through helping people keep their savings safe. And helping everyone have a place to call home. Today, that purpose is still a huge part of who we are. And every one of our colleagues helps that happen.
We’re committed to volunteering our time, resources, skills and knowledge – more than 50% of colleagues contribute to thousands of volunteer hours every year. And our Charitable Foundation has now donated over £9 million to charities and good causes across the country.
Our ways of working

We know there’s no single right way of working that fits everyone. That’s why we’re not trying to find one. Instead, we’re doing everything we can to make sure that when we’re working flexibly, together and apart, we’re working at our best. And help our colleagues get the most out of work, and take care of themselves, wherever they’re working.
Whether you’re in an office-based team or your team is spread across the country, you’ll have lots of chances to get together with your colleagues for those Moments that Matter – which are all about building wonderful relationships and strong bonds with your colleagues.
