Access for All: Accessibility Passport
At Yorkshire Building Society, we’re home to thousands of colleagues - all with different backgrounds, experiences, needs and ways of working.
Just like the communities we serve, no two people are the same. That diversity is something we’re proud of. And it’s why we’re committed to creating a workplace where everyone feels supported, understood and able to do their best work.
What is the Accessibility Passport?
Our Accessibility Passport is a personalised, live document that helps colleagues outline the adjustments they need to perform at their best - whether that’s related to health, disability, neurodiversity, caring responsibilities, or individual working preferences.
It’s designed to encourage open, ongoing conversations between colleagues and their managers, making it easier to understand what support is needed and how it can be put in place.
Crucially, the passport isn’t static. It can be updated as circumstances change - when someone moves roles, joins a new team, or their needs evolve - so it always stays relevant.
Why it matters?
The Accessibility Passport plays an important role in helping us build a more inclusive workplace. It supports consistency, reduces the need for colleagues to repeatedly explain their needs, and helps ensure adjustments move with them across the business.
More than anything, it’s about creating trust, understanding and lasting change - not just meeting requirements, but doing better for our people.
Official launch and Passport Download
On 5th February, we officially launched the Yorkshire Building Society Accessibility Passport. We were joined by accessibility advocates and leaders from across a variety of organisations to have an open, informative discussion about the importance of creating accessible workplaces for all.
We discussed how the Passport can be used to spark inclusive conversations between employees and managers, practical tips to implement and promote Accessibility Passports, and the best practices for supporting managers and employees.
We believe that true accessibility should be shared, not siloed. To support other organisations in building more inclusive workplaces, we’ve made a white-label version of our Accessibility Passport available to download here.
