Senior Credit Risk Analyst - Full time

The Retail Lending Policy team is an integral part of YBS’s Credit Risk function. We pride ourselves on working collaboratively with our colleagues in teams across the business, including Underwriting Service Delivery, Resilience and Controls, Trading, Customer Support, Direct and Intermediary Distribution, Finance and Portfolio and Collections to ensure we’re identifying, mitigating and managing conduct, credit and operational risks. This allows us to provide a joyful experience for our customers and provides sustainable growth and performance for our members. Above all else, the Credit Risk function helps YBS to deliver Real Help with Real Life in a safe and responsible way.

About the Role

As a Senior Credit Risk Analyst, you’ll be a key member of our team, leveraging your Credit Risk expertise to help YBS deliver its objectives. You will get the chance to be involved in a range of interesting projects and initiatives. Some of the areas you could be responsible for:

  • Maintain and enhance key credit risk controls, including lending policy and affordability models, ensuring they remain robust, compliant, and aligned with regulatory expectations. You’ll work cross-functionally to gain approval for policy changes that support YBS’s growth ambitions while maintaining responsible lending practices.

  • Provide assurance to internal and external stakeholders by responding to oversight findings and addressing identified concerns, ensuring our credit risk governance remains effective and accountable.

  • Conduct market scanning and competitor benchmarking to ensure our lending policies and standards remain appropriate, competitive, and aligned with industry best practice.

  • Use internal and external data to develop a deep understanding of our retail lending portfolio, producing high-quality credit risk analytics that deliver meaningful insight and support strategic decision-making.

  • Provide Subject Matter Expert (SME) support to colleagues on complex aspects of Lending Policy and Standards, ensuring consistent interpretation and application across the business.

About You

  • Strong time management and collaboration skills, with a proactive and curious mindset focused on continuous improvement and driving tasks from start to finish.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a keen eye for identifying trends, risks, and opportunities within complex datasets.

  • Advanced data skills, including proficiency in SAS (or equivalent statistical tools), SQL, and Microsoft Excel.

  • Strong written communication skills, with the ability to produce clear and structured committee papers.

  • Proven experience in Credit Risk or a similar analytically focused role within Financial Services or a related industry. Knowledge of the retail mortgage market is advantageous, though not essential if you bring relevant experience from other financial sectors.

Community and Charity

Ever since we started back in 1864, we’ve had a clear purpose – to do some good in our communities through helping people keep their savings safe. And helping everyone have a place to call home. Today, that purpose is still a huge part of who we are. And every one of our colleagues helps that happen.

We’re committed to volunteering our time, resources, skills and knowledge – more than 50% of colleagues contribute to thousands of volunteer hours every year. And our Charitable Foundation has now donated over £9 million to charities and good causes across the country.

Our ways of working and flexibility

Colleague smiling at phone in the office

We know there’s no single right way of working that fits everyone. That’s why we’re not trying to find one. Instead, we’re doing everything we can to make sure that when we’re working flexibly, together and apart, we’re working at our best. We help our colleagues get the most out of work, and take care of themselves, wherever they’re working.

We offer a range of flexible working options without unsocial hours, which can help you find a healthy work-life balance. Whether it’s finishing early for an appointment or fitting your studies and hobbies in around your working hours, we can help make it work for you. We’re happy to talk flexible working and you can reach out to us anytime during the recruitment process to discuss this.

I recruit for the following business areas: People, Risk, Internal Audit & Commercial (excluding digital channels)

I joined YBS in October 2021. Prior to this I spent 5 years working within other financial services, gaining experience in internal recruitment, and ultimately realising this was the career I was passionate about.

I have been fortunate enough throughout my years in recruitment to recruit for lots of different areas but I currently specialise in our head office functions, supporting hiring managers with their resourcing needs and supporting candidates to achieve their full potential throughout our recruitment process.

I recruit for the following business areas: Commercial (excluding digital channels), Internal Audit, People & Risk

I joined the Society in 2017, and throughout that time I have worked in several departments, learning and growing along the way. However, it wasn't until April 2022 that I finally discovered my passion, which is recruitment.

In my current role with the Resourcing & Inclusion team, I’ve had the opportunity to collaborate with many amazing teams across the business. I absolutely love helping hiring managers find their perfect candidates, and it's equally rewarding to assist candidates in landing their dream jobs.
