Are you passionate about change and making a real difference in developing and improving payments systems and processes? Join us as a Payments Demand Owner and become a key voice in shaping the future of payment services across the Society.
Our newly created Payments Demand Owner will be a key support role to the Payments Optimisation Manager in supporting, developing and prioritising the future of YBS payments change, ensuring targeted development and change is identified and prioritised appropriately. This exciting opportunity will form a secondary role alongside another existing in-role Payments Demand Owner; demonstrating the potential for future payments change and transformation to continue across the Society.
This role will be based in our Bradford Office, with flexible working from home capability.
About the role
As Payments Demand Owner, you’ll be responsible for managing the end-to-end flow of change that impacts the Society’s payments estate. You’ll act as the single front door for payments demand, making sure new change is captured, assessed, prioritised and governed in a consistent way. Translate the Society’s strategic direction and goals into an immediate term and longer-term executable roadmap of the payments systems and products vision.
- You’ll work closely with Payments, Technology, Change, Risk, Compliance, Finance, Digital teams, sponsor banks and third-party providers to understand impacts, manage dependencies and support successful delivery. This includes ensuring payments change is shaped properly before it enters delivery, with clear consideration of operational readiness, customer outcomes, regulatory requirements, sponsor bank constraints, scheme rules, settlement, reconciliation, reporting and financial control impacts.
- You’ll maintain a clear, prioritised payments demand backlog and help build a forward-looking roadmap aligned to strategic, regulatory and operational priorities. You’ll use your payments expertise to support decision-making, clearly explaining priorities, risks, trade-offs and delivery impacts to senior stakeholders and governance forums.
- A key part of the role will be improving the quality of payments change entering delivery, reducing rework, strengthening controls and ensuring Payments teams are ready to operate new or changed processes at go-live. You’ll also support continuous improvement across payments processes and help build subject matter expertise within the team.
About you:
- You’ll have strong knowledge of UK retail payments, including Faster Payments, Bacs, CHAPS, cards and cheques, ideally within an indirect scheme participation model. You’ll understand how payments operate end to end, including processing, sponsor bank interaction, settlement, reconciliation, general ledger impacts, reporting and financial controls.
- You’ll be confident managing demand, shaping complex change and applying structured judgement to balance competing priorities across risk, regulation, operations, customer outcomes and delivery capacity. You’ll be comfortable working in a regulated environment where attention to detail, governance and control are critical.
- You’ll be a clear and credible communicator, able to explain complex payments impacts in a simple way for both technical and senior audiences. You’ll be confident working across teams, influencing without direct authority and helping others understand what good payments change looks like.
- You’ll take ownership for outcomes, challenge where needed and look for opportunities to improve how payments change is assessed, delivered and embedded. You’ll bring a continuous improvement mindset, strong organisational skills and the ability to operate as a trusted payments subject matter expert across systems, processes, risks and controls.
