Level 7 - Coordinator

Payments Administrator: get closer to the engine room of Payments Operations

Looking to broaden your knowledge of how payments really work behind the scenes? This 910-month secondment is a great opportunity to build practical experience across investigations, exception management, controls and operational problem solving, while playing a hands-on role in delivering accurate, timely outcomes for customers, colleagues and the Society.

You’ll be joining a team where attention to detail matters, but so does curiosity, ownership and a willingness to get stuck in. If you want to develop your understanding of payments operations, build confidence working with data and stakeholders, and gain exposure to a fast-moving area that touches many parts of the organisation, this could be a brilliant next step.

About the role

As a Payments Administrator, you’ll support the effective running of day-to-day payments and banking processes, helping to make sure transactions, reconciliations, investigations and exceptions are managed accurately, efficiently and within agreed timescales.

  • Play an active role in core Payments Operations activity, including reconciliations, reviewing exceptions, resolving discrepancies and supporting payment-related queries.
  • Help identify, investigate and escalate issues, risks or unusual activity, making sure outcomes are managed effectively and audit trails are clear.
  • Build breadth across payment and banking processes by working with internal teams, branches, agencies and external partners to keep activity moving and support strong operational outcomes.

About you

You’ll be someone who enjoys working accurately, solving problems and building your knowledge in a role.

  • You’ll bring strong attention to detail, good numeracy skills and the ability to manage competing priorities across daily operational deadlines.
  • You’ll be confident working with data and Microsoft Office tools, particularly Excel, and comfortable investigating queries or discrepancies to understand what has happened and what needs to happen next.
  • You’ll communicate clearly, build positive working relationships and be proactive in spotting opportunities to improve processes, reduce manual effort and strengthen customer or operational outcomes.

Community and Charity

Ever since we started back in 1864, we’ve had a clear purpose – to do some good in our communities through helping people keep their savings safe. And helping everyone have a place to call home. Today, that purpose is still a huge part of who we are. And every one of our colleagues helps that happen.
